    The Kansas Recreation and Park Association, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City have partnered in the awarding of six state healthy community awards.

     Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas sponsors the BlueCHIP Award in every Kansas county except Johnson and Wyandotte.  Those two counties fall under the jurisdiction of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City.  Collectively, the two organizations have demonstrated their support of both parks and recreation in Kansas and of encouraging healthy lifestyles by supporting and sponsoring this meaningful award.

    The deadline to apply for a BlueCHIP Award is December 4th.  For additional information on the process, email the KRPA Office.

    Healthy Fun on State Parks Day
                                                   

    Did you know that you can get into any Kansas State Park for FREE on September 26, 2015?

    Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is teaming up with your Kansas State Parks for Healthy Fun at the State Parks Day. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas knows that healthy outdoor recreation builds longer, happier lives. For example, sharing just an hour of fun activity outdoors can add up to two hours of life expectancy.

    Come join us for FREE at a State Park on September 26 to enjoy a day of hiking, biking, boating, camping, wildlife watching or any of a multitude of healthy outdoor activities. For more information click here.

    The Gold Medal Award honors communities throughout the United States that

    demonstrate excellence in long-range planning, resource management, and agency 

    recognition.  Each agency is judged on its ability to address the needs of those it

    serves through the collective energies of citizens, staff, and elected officials.


    The Gold Medal Award Program includes seven classes:  five classes based upon 

    population, one class for armed forces recreation and one class for state park

    systems in odd numbered years.

    St. Andrews Golf Course in Overland  Park, KS.

    Registration Fee:

    $75.00 per player / $300 per Team

    Three youth sports administrators from Kansas have become founding members of the CYSA Leadership Committee.

    •   Ryan Dalton, recreation director, Wellsville Joint Recreation Commission
    •   Chris Nelson, youth sports supervisor, Manhattan Parks and Recreation
    •   Ricci Tucker, sports director, Winfield Recreation Commission
    Congrats to Chris, Ricci and Ryan! We anticipate great things to come from this committee to further promote the need for education and professional standards of those overseeing youth sports programs and also help guide policy and standards in youth sports programming and administration.
