Online Blended Learning Course and Exam

The CPSI Blended Learning Course is a combination of the CPSI Online Learning Course, live training sessions conducted virtually by CPSI instructors and the CPSI computer-based exam.

  • CPSI Online Learning Course: This course provides in-depth analysis of ASTM standards related to playground safety focused on the process of safety inspection from design, through audit and inspection, to maintenance and risk management practices. Participants must complete the entire Online Learning Course at least 24 hours before the CPSI Virtual Session.
  • Virtual Instructor Training Session: This training session led by the CPSI course instructor provides practical training on how to apply the ASTM standards and the CPSC guidelines to playground environments. The training is conducted through a four-hour Zoom meeting.

  • Computer-Based Exam: Participants will be provided with information on how to schedule their exam at a nearby professional testing facility. Exam results are provided on-site at the conclusion of the exam.

CPSI candidates are highly encouraged to take the course for initial certification.

Certified Playground Safety Inspector Course

There are an estimated 200,000 playground related injuries reported yearly. National Recreation and Park Association’s Certified Playground Safety Inspector Course is a must for staff from park and recreation agencies, school districts, child care facilities, health departments, landscape architects, playground manufacturers, installers or contractors, insurance firms, consumers and others responsible for play equipment areas or playgrounds.

The Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) course promotes children’s right to play and promotes the importance of play in children’s development. CPSI provides the most current comprehensive training program on playground safety including the development and distribution of playground training and safety products. CPSI provides input to help develop responsible public policy for the guaranteed safety of our children while at the same time advocating sound fiscal responsibility to provide resources for the ongoing maintenance and support of the policy.

Course Features

Sponsored by the Kansas Recreation and Park Association in cooperation with the National Recreation and Park Association, this course is the most comprehensive training program on playground hazard identification and risk management methods offered. Advanced reading and 15 hours of training prepare participants to sit for the Certified Playground Safety Inspector examination.
