BlueCHIP Healthy Community Award
The Kansas Recreation and Park Association, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City have partnered in the awarding of six state healthy community awards.

The BlueCHIP Award was created and first awarded at the 2011 KRPA Conference and Trade Show.  BlueCHIP is a community health improvement program designed to recognize and reward Kansas communities who encourage and support healthy lifestyles through programs, initiatives, policies and/or community-wide events.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas sponsors the BlueCHIP Award in every Kansas county except Johnson and Wyandotte.  Those two counties fall under the jurisdiction of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City.  Collectively, the two organizations have demonstrated their support of both parks and recreation in Kansas and of encouraging healthy lifestyles by supporting and sponsoring this meaningful award.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas program provides winners from any of the following communities, small (up to 10,000), medium (10,001-20,000) and large (20,001 and up).  The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City award program provides winners from any of the following communities, less than 30,000 and a community with a population of 30,000 or more in Johnson or Wyandotte counties.  All award winners are announced at the annual KRPA Conference and Trade Show.

The winning communities are honored with a special award and also receive $2,500 to further their efforts to fund programs or initiatives which support healthy lifestyles.
